Maca Nutrition Facts
Maca Root Health Benefits title Maca root (lepidium meyenii) is an adaptogen and a member of the cruciferous family, like broccoli and cabbage, but due to it’s unique properties it considered one of the world’s natural “super foods.”
There are three primary types of Maca. Black, Red and Yellow. Most Maca you get is predominantly yellow as the others are costly, and most companies are not willing to forgo the cost. Moringa Health uses a white Maca, which is a higher form of yellow, red and black in our MaCarRx formulation. Superior ingredients deliver a superior result. According to the tradition, an infusion of carqueja flowers cures all illnesses. The plant belongs to the flora of Portugal, Spain and Morocco, where it is known by several names. It is very common in mountains like Serra da Estrela and Serra do Açor, in Portugal, but its habitat extends for a very wide area of Europe and Africa.
Medicinal use of carqueja
Traditionally, carqueja is used to improve digestive functions, as a liver stimulant, as a diuretic and also in colds and flu. Usually, the whole plant is used, although the flowers are more popular, especially in infusions. It is also used for treating wounds in the form of poultice.
The infused flowers are traditionally used as “tea for all ailments” and general discomfort. The list of therapeutic effects is a long one, but carqueja is rich in phenolic compounds like vanillic acid, caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid, syringic acid, p-coumaric acid, ferulic acid, ellagic acid and quercetin. It is good for fighting inflammation and for cleansing the colon and kidneys. It also supports the pancreas as it helps to kick start the important 6 month cycle of cell reproduction, which our bodies tend to neglect as we age. Stepping this herb up to an anti-aging status!
Fights acne and diabetes
Boiled carqueja roots can be applied to the skin in cases of acne. The infusion of the flowers is also used as a digestive, to soothe gastric pain and as an intestinal anti-inflammatory; due to its blood sugar lowering properties it can also help in type 2 diabetes. Carqueja promotes a good circulatory system, it is a vasodilator and a depurative. The plant is also recognized for treating the respiratory tract and the infusion of the flowers is used to alleviate flu, bronchitis, cough, sore throat, angina and sinusitis.
Carqueja seems to benefit the nervous system as well and is used as a sedative and a general tonic, fighting physical fatigue and having stimulating effects.
Not recommended for pregnant and breastfeeding women. Those with hormone-sensitive conditions such as uterine fibrosis, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, endometriosis, and uterine cancer should not use Meca extracts.
Carqueja has been documented to lower blood glucose levels in humans and animal studies. Persons with hypoglycemia, and people with diabetes should check with their doctor prior to using this plant.
